The oil really helps the balde glide over your face and cut the whiskers rather than dragging and hacking. I'm not the biggest fan of the menthol and cloves scent idea but it actually smells good yet not overpowering. Read the various postings to help you decide but believe me, shaving oil is a definite positive addition to your shave. Since using it, I can't imagine ever using creme again. I use the 5 drops on a wet face and shave with a Fusion. Closest, least irritating shave ever. As a bonus, I seem to be able to use the razor long after the lubricant strip turns white. I tried it as an electric pre-shave, but didn't find it as effective as with a blade. If you try it once, you will likely use it for life.
