This review is from: King of Shaves Kinexium Shaving Oil (Misc.) King of Shaves simply make the best shaving products in the world. In the UK you could buy them in a drug store, but not in the US. I'm delighted some shaving specialist stores are now handling their products. I use this oil first, in conjunction with Alphagel, which I apply after this oil. I get the best shave ever. It looks expensive, but you get a hundred shaves out of a bottle, and it's worth every cent. I apply some of this shaving oil under my Bald Guyz Shave Gel and get a very good shave, free from irritation and smooth!! I would highly recommend this product if you have sensitive skin. I think you will like it. From my experience, this product will give you the best results if used under you shaving gel/cream. The shaving oil will let your razor glide easily and offer lots of protection. The shaving cream/gel can then be put on top of the oil as "extra" protection. I was excited and hopeful that FINALLY I wouldn't have to deal with razor burn, bumps, etc anymore. Alas, 5 blades aren't better than 4, just as 4 blades weren't better than 3, so on and so forth. As it turns out you just need one simple little blade to do the trick. After reading the article 'How to Shave Like Your Grandpa' (http://artofmanliness.com/2008/01/04/how-to-shave-like-your-grandpa/) I decided to switch to a high quality shaving cream, badger brush, and aftershave lotion. I also purchased the Merkur razor and extra blades. The difference cannot be put into words. The best I can do is 'simply amazing'. I never, never get any kind of irritated skin post-shave. I cannot feel one bit of stubble afterwards, even if I run my hand against the grain. The quality of the shave is unsurpassed (at least for at-home shaves. The last straw happened recently when Amazon sent me a few free schick quattro's. I gave them a try thinking hmmm, four blades must equal one good close shave but unfortunately for me four cheap blades equal lots of razor burn and hair clogging up the razor rendering them quickly useless because its nearly impossible picking the tiny hairs out from between all four blades. I ordered this Merkur long handled razor after researching the reviews and I'm so happy that I did! This razor has a beautiful chrome finish with a nice heavy feel to it. Its real quality and built for a lifetime of service. Its such an easy design and gives such a close shave that it makes me wonder how disposable razors were ever invented in the first place. I had looked around for a hot lather machine for a while, but unsuccessfully. A few years ago, I received a Conair hot lather machine as a gift, and it has been wonderful! It warms nicely, and it has a thermostat to keep your lather from getting too hot. This machine has been great to me. Just remember to read and follow the instructions - if you don't shake the unit before turning it on, the lather will come out all watery and hot. If you're even just thinking about getting a hot lather machine, buy it. It's worth the inexpensive price to pamper yourself, and it lasts forever. Take a standard can of shaving cream, pop off the top and the dispensor cap, and insert and secure it into the hot lather machine. After you plug it the red light will turn on, and when the lather is 'hot' you'll see it switch over to green, which only takes a few minutes. The lather does dispense comfortably hot in your hand, but it very rapidly loses its heat. Its no exaggeration to say that by the time you put your hand to your face the lather has become tepid, and once you're ready to shave the lather is no warmer than it would have been had you dispensed it from the can directly. I'm going to store this machine until winter, when it might prove more useful. It doesn't seem to be worth the trouble right now with spring and summer coming up.
