The recommended length of time to use one of the heads is for one year. The first two shaving heads I had were great (probably worth 4 stars), but then I bought this one and it seems like I have trouble getting a smooth shave.The obvious difference I noticed was in color. The first shaving heads I used were gray, but this new one is white. Other than that, I don't know why or if Philips changed their manufacturing process, or maybe I just got a bum replacement. When I shave, I usually have to go over my face twice with this new shaving head, then I still have to touch up my face with a regular shaving razor. Although I am disappointed with this head, using an electric razor is much nicer on face than a conventional razor blade. It works without trouble, and it gives a very good close shave. I have a little problem with ingrown hairs, but you probably cannot get both a close shave and no razor burn. I use special after shaves that help reduce razor irritation. The Philips shaving conditioner also helps reduce the shaving irritation. I also recommend using shaving oil prior to shaving. OK, let's get back to the shaving head itself. My last head at times cut under my chin, and it bled sometimes. However, I have never had a problem with the new head. It might also be because now I have more experience in using the shaver. Anyway, I give this shaver head a perfect score!
